Teams: Dave Leach wrote some great words as we head out this weekend and I want to make sure you have them. To our wear blue community: Several months ago, a civilian colleague indicated that his nephew had been killed in combat. The conversation didn’t allow for more discussion, but his comment stuck with me. This week, preparing for Memorial Day, I reached out recalling our conversation. He wrote back, enthusiastic that I had remembered his nephew. He responded with the story of his nephew’s service and his final actions, as told by his unit members. He was so moved by my interest in his nephew’s story, and shortly after our conversation, I shared his nephew’s service with our leadership team. His peers quickly reached out, offering words of encouragement, mentioning his nephew by name. One stated, “I’ll teach this story to my three boys.” And just like that, his legacy, his memory lives on. Most importantly, his family knows their loved one is not forgotten. Since retiring and being away from a military environment, I realize many don’t fully grasp the meaning or reason for Memorial Day. It’s not their fault. Most, thankfully, have never suffered the tragic loss our Gold Star families have endured. Many don’t have any experience with or know anyone who has served. This is why the work wear blue: run to remember does is so vitally important. Our mission keeps the memory of my colleague’s family member alive. The posters and streamers on a racecourse are lives of loved ones. The stories of our Gold Star athletes and Gold Star Youth Mentorship participants are cherished memories. Memorial Day is intensely personal for these families and friends of our fallen and is worthy of our time, our honor, and our remembrance. Please join me on Memorial Day in honoring their legacy. Let’s Remember. Together. Dave Leach Director of Operations Colonel, US Army, Retired

This Memorial Day,  Brown Advisory and wear blue: run to remember come together to actively honor our nation’s fallen military heroes.

From May 29 through June 5, in teams of up to 14, we will run, bike, and swim our way from Abdali, Kuwait to Baghdad, Iraq - a total of 350 miles. During this time, each of us will be matched up with the name of a fallen service member to add additional purpose to our steps.

Although we are working together as teams and as a firm, we are also part of a larger effort. wear blue: run to remember is seeking to ensure each of our nation’s 65K+ service members who have given their lives since the first days of the Vietnam War through the present day are spoken for on Memorial Day.

The median age of a Vietnam veteran is 77-years old. We must recognize the critical moment before us and collectively honor this generation’s fallen service members within their lifetime.

Our steps will ensure that generations of names are spoken, stories learned, and legacies honored, from PFC Dan Bullock who, at 15 years-old became the youngest American killed in the Vietnam War, to the 13 lost on August 26, 2021, as we exited the US's longest war in Afghanistan.

This Memorial Day, remembrance of these men and women is our solemn obligation.
